DHL Express and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have launched a pilot program in South Africa to evaluate the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo as an electric last-mile delivery vehicle. The six-month trial deploys four ID.Buzz Cargo vans across DHL Express service centers in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. The initiative is designed to gather operational data and assess market readiness for commercial electric vehicles in the region, while supporting both companies' broader sustainability goals. 

The partnership aligns with Volkswagen’s long-term strategy to introduce electric vehicles into the South African market and DHL’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. DHL also aims to have at least 60% of its last-mile delivery fleet electrified by 2030. Insights gained from the pilot will help determine how electric commercial vehicles can be integrated into local logistics operations and contribute to reducing transportation-related emissions.
