Car Stories

Porsche Carrera GT

The Porsche Carrera GT is widely regarded as one of the greatest analog supercars ever built. Produced from 2003 to 2006, it combined race-car engineering with an uncompromising driving experience. At its heart was a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 derived from a canceled Porsche racing program, producing 603–605 horsepower and 435 lb-ft (590 Nm) of torque. Power was sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission, allowing the Carrera GT to sprint from 0–60 mph in about 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). Porsche built only 1,270 examples, making it one of the most exclusive and desirable supercars of its era.

What made the Carrera GT truly unique was its purity. It featured a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, an ultra-lightweight ceramic clutch, a high-revving V10 capable of reaching 8,400 rpm, and notably lacked modern electronic driving aids such as traction control and stability control. This gave the car a raw, demanding character that rewarded skilled drivers and earned it a reputation as the “last great analog hypercar.” Its removable roof panels, race-inspired engineering, and unforgettable V10 soundtrack created an experience that few cars—past or present—can match.
