The NISMO R34 GT‑R Z‑tune is presented as the ultimate evolution of the second-generation Skyline GT‑R, a model line that achieved numerous racing victories over roughly 15 years thanks to its advanced RB26DETT engine and ATTESA E‑TS drivetrain. Built on the R34—the most refined version of this generation—NISMO applied all of its accumulated racing expertise and technology to create a complete road car under the concepts of “the strongest road-going car in the world” and “Top of GT‑R.” The project began with a concept finalized in 2000 and debuted at the NISMO Festival, where it won a tuning competition using a 600 ps engine. Development continued with a focus on adding comfort and usability, including interior upgrades and engine refinement from the Z1 to Z2 versions, alongside extensive testing such as participation in Nürburgring endurance racing, where related technology proved its performance and durability.
The Z‑tune represents NISMO’s highest level of tuning philosophy, aimed at achieving top-class speed and endurance for a road-going car through a carefully balanced overall design. Each vehicle is hand-built using processes similar to race car manufacturing, starting from carefully selected base R34 GT‑R models with strict criteria such as low mileage and excellent condition. These donor cars are disassembled, reinforced, repainted, and rebuilt with precision by skilled mechanics, resulting in a level of quality and performance beyond mass-production standards.
