Production Car Lap Record Broken Again on Tsukuba 2024

The Nissan GT-R R35 continues to prove its performance credentials despite its age. For the 2024 model year, Nissan introduced subtle styling updates, improved aerodynamics, and a new front limited-slip differential. These changes helped the 2024 GT-R NISMO set a new production-car lap record at Japan's Tsukuba Circuit, with racing driver Tsugio Matsuda recording a lap time of 59.078 seconds, improving on the previous NISMO's 59.361-second record. Key aerodynamic revisions, including a larger swan-neck rear wing, redesigned diffuser, front lip, and canards, increased downforce and improved high-speed stability, making the car even more capable on track.

The 2024 Nissan GT-R NISMO represents the ultimate evolution of the legendary R35 platform, blending supercar performance with decades of refinement. Powered by a hand-assembled 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged VR38DETT V6, it produces 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission and Nissan's advanced ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system. Despite the platform's age, the GT-R NISMO remains incredibly capable, recently setting a 59.078-second lap record at Tsukuba Circuit, demonstrating that it can still compete with much newer performance cars.

What makes the 2024 NISMO unique is its focus on aerodynamics and track performance. Nissan equipped it with a larger swan-neck carbon-fiber rear wing, revised front lip, canards, and diffuser to increase downforce and stability at speed. A new front limited-slip differential improves cornering grip and track behavior, while the hand-built engine, aggressive styling, and race-inspired tuning preserve the raw character that made the GT-R famous. As one of the last high-performance Japanese cars to combine a twin-turbo V6, all-wheel drive, and a highly mechanical driving experience, the 2024 GT-R NISMO serves as a fitting finale to the iconic R35 generation.
